Garage Equipment Inspections

Within vehicle repair centres, car lift ramps are essential to do the job. With such a big weight to lift, it doesn’t need spelling out what could happen if garage ramps aren’t properly inspected and maintained, which is why you need an experienced set of eyes on them on a regular basis.

The inspection of lifting equipment in garages falls under Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998, and it’s a set of regulations that our team of surveyors are very familiar with. Therefore, we’re proud to offer vehicle ramp inspection services throughout the UK.

Our LOLER inspection of vehicle lifts process

We work with vehicle garages around the UK to set up a regular inspection schedule, attending their premises at a time that suits them to ensure they comply with LOLER, and highlight any issues where repair or adjustment is required.

Following this appointment, we’ll send over a detailed digital report, complete with photos to illustrate any problems that we’ve come across. These can then be kept on record, and presented to inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive as and when required.

What garage equipment can be examined?

If you rely on anything within your repair center to lift something, such as car service ramps, engine cranes, jacks and axle stands, it should be inspected under LOLER, which are the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.

How are LOLER regulations enforced?

An inspection team from the Health and Safety Executive attend establishments where lifting equipment is used, such as garages where vehicle ramps are installed, for example. Firm and decisive action is taken against anywhere where lifting equipment is found to be lacking or dangerous, with help and guidance offered by the Health and Safety Executive to make the necessary changes needed to comply with regulations.

LOLER record keeping is required, and should be available for inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive. This record keeping should be available for at least two years or until the next report, whichever is longer. The reports don’t necessarily have to be paper copies - they can be digital versions, like the ones we provide at Excel Inspection Solutions, but they should be easily accessible when the need to see them arises.

What are the benefits of a car inspection lift inspection?

The Importance of Vehicle Ramp Inspections"

Prioritize Safety and Compliance

The benefits of a vehicle ramp inspection centre around both safety and compliance. It’s a non-negotiable for any business or building that houses lifting equipment to comply with LOLER, so in order to remain on the right side of HSE, it’s essential for the equipment to be thoroughly and regularly inspected.

Safeguarding Operations

In terms of safety, it is of course imperative that vehicle lifting equipment is regularly inspected to ensure that it still operates as it should, and dangerous malfunctions can be avoided. A lifted vehicle is a safety concern to all those working around it, and the equipment it’s lifted with is relied upon to keep everyone out of harm’s way.

Digital reports

All of our statutory and emergency reports are sent to you digitally, accompanied with any photographs to help with illustration. This helps keep your paper waste down and provides an infinite backup for your reports. You can also access all of your ramp inspection reports via dedicated portal.

PUWER: Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations

These regulations also come into play for vehicle repair centers that are home to car ramps. The regulations stretch wider than the automotive repair industry, as they relate to the safety of any equipment available for use by an employee at work. As a vehicle lift is something that an employee needs to use, the PUWER 1998 regulations are applicable, and the appropriate lift inspections are required as part of that.
